Mobilisation

Site set-up, welfare, hoarding, traffic management plan (TMP) with the relevant highway authority.

Foundations

Typically pad-and-screw foundations for stable ground (1-2 weeks for 200-bay site) or driven piles for soft ground.

Steel erection

Carport steel frame assembled and erected by qualified steel erectors (1-2 weeks for 200-bay site).

PV install

Panels mounted on carport rafters, DC cabling routed through tray, string strings to inverters (1-2 weeks).

AC commissioning and handover

AC connection to site distribution board, G99 protection relay commissioning, DNO sign-off, MCS handover and customer training (1 week).

How long does solar carport installation take?

From customer sign-off to switch-on: 16-28 weeks total for a typical 200-500 space project. Of that, only 6-10 weeks is active on-site construction; the remainder is design, DNO and planning. Larger sites (>1,000 spaces) typically run 32-44 weeks.

Can installation happen while the car park is in use?

Yes — this is how most of our installs work. We design a phased TMP (Traffic Management Plan) that takes 1-3 bays offline at a time, working in a rolling pattern. Typical loss of bay availability over the build window is 15-20% across the whole site.

Who handles building regulations and CDM?

We do. As principal contractor under CDM 2015, we hold the responsibility for building regulations submission, principal designer duties, principal contractor duties, and Health & Safety File creation at handover.

Do we need any of our own staff involved during installation?

Minimal — a nominated site liaison who can sign off TMP changes, attend a weekly progress meeting, and act as DNO point of contact. We handle everything else.
