Retail carports were never in scope for PSDS, which was public-sector only and in any case closed to new applications when Phase 4, the final phase, ended in November 2024, and no successor scheme has been announced. The two main routes are (1) AIA on capital deployment, (2) commercial PPA — particularly attractive for retailers with stretched balance sheets. Major UK supermarkets are also building portfolio PPAs internally via parent-company project SPVs.
